Deleting your account

How to ask, what can be removed, and what has to stay.

There is no delete button on your account page. Closing an account is done by asking us, so that we can check what it is tied to before anything is removed.

How to ask

Write to us from the address on the account and say you want it closed. We will tell you what can be removed and what cannot, before doing anything.

An account with no history

If you signed up, looked around, and never bought, sold or topped up, there is nothing entangled and the account can simply be removed after the minimal retention period of 12 months.

An account that has been used

An account with orders, deliveries, listings or credit history cannot simply be erased. Those records are not only yours: an order is also the seller's record of a sale, a delivery involves a carrier, and both carry accounting obligations that outlast an account.

This is not a way of keeping hold of you. It is the same reason a shop cannot delete last year's receipts because a customer asks. So an account with transactions is not likely to be completely erased since the data matters. In this particular case the minimum retention period for the personal data attached to a transaction is 5 years, as required by accounting and tax law; the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) governs how that data is protected for as long as it is held.

What you can remove yourself, right now

Even while an account stays open, most of what identifies you is under your control:

Your name and email address are the two that have to stay while the account exists: the email is how you sign in, and the name is attached to any review you have written.

Reviews stay

A review you have written is permanent and carries your name. It cannot be edited or deleted — not by you, not by the seller, not on request — and closing an account does not withdraw it. Worth knowing before you write one, rather than after.

Leaving a review

If you sell

A shop is closed separately, and a shop that still has listings on it cannot be removed until those listings are gone. Tell us what you want to happen to the shop as well as the account, and we will work through it in the right order.

Before you go

If the reason is something we did — a delivery that went wrong, a seller who did not answer, an email you could not stop — tell us that instead, or as well. Some of it we can fix, and we would rather fix it than lose you quietly. In any case you'll always have our love for becoming an 'artmirer' and appreciating beautiful things!
