Using your shopping cart

Collect items from several shops and pay for them without losing your place.

The cart lets you gather several items and deal with them together instead of buying one at a time. Add to Cart sits on every item page, between Buy Item and Make an Offer.

You need to be signed in to add anything. Your cart lives with your account rather than in this browser, so it follows you to your phone and is still there tomorrow.

The cart is grouped by seller

This is the thing to understand first: you pay each seller separately. The cart page splits your items into a group per shop, each with its own items total, shipping total and its own Checkout button.

Three sellers means three payments. After paying one group you come back to the cart for the next. Nothing is lost between them — the other groups are exactly where you left them.

Shipping is charged per item

Two items from the same seller are charged shipping twice. Each line keeps the delivery cost its own item page quoted, and those are added up. There is no combined shipping today, so if you are buying several things from one shop it is worth asking them about it in a message first.

What each line shows

Every item in the cart carries its picture, title, price and its own shipping cost, with Remove beside it. Under each group you get the items subtotal, the shipping subtotal and the group Total — which is what that seller's payment will be.

When a group cannot be checked out

A group's Checkout button will not start until the group is clean:

Items you have negotiated on

An item with an accepted offer waiting to be paid has no Add to Cart button — it is bought with Buy Item instead. The cart always charges the listing price, so putting a negotiated item through it would quietly cost you the discount you agreed. Once an accepted offer's window has passed, the item becomes ordinary again and can be added like any other.

Paying for a group

Checkout runs in three steps and covers the whole group at once: your delivery address and any note to the seller, then payment, then confirmation. One address and one note apply to every item in that group.

Account credit cannot be used on a cart payment for now — a group is paid by card. If you want to spend your credit, buy that item on its own with Buy Item instead.

Afterwards

Paid items leave your cart on their own. Confirmation emails arrive per item rather than per payment, so a group of four sends you four messages — and each one links to that item's own delivery, which is where you will track it.

The cart does not hold anything for you

Adding an item to your cart does not reserve it. It stays on sale to everyone, and someone else can buy it while it is sitting in your cart — which is exactly what the "no longer available" line is telling you when it appears. For something you are sure about, the cart is a step on the way, not a safe place to leave it.
